NBC is turning on the lights and opening up the bar again for a “St. Elmo’s Fire” TV series remake. The 1985 coming-of-age classic cemented stars Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy and Demi Moore as core members of the ’80s “Brat Pack.” The original film chronicled the trials and tribulations of a group of close friends after their graduation from Georgetown University. NBC is adapting the story to modern day, which won’t be too much of an issue, as the original film dealt with fairly timeless themes of adjusting to adulthood, struggling with career choices, and unrequited love.

GOOD NEWS

There’s a three-year-old kid near Boston named Quinn Waters who recently had surgery to remove a brain tumor.  Then he had a stem cell transplant and went through chemo, which destroyed his immune system.

So he has to stay indoors, and can’t go outside for a while.  But his town has been rallying around him to make sure he doesn’t get too bored.

People in his community have been showing up at his house just to entertain him through his front WINDOW.

He’s seen everything from jugglers and musicians, to a huge group of bikers who recently rode by on their Harleys.

He also got to meet SUPERMAN last month.  And another guy showed up just to let Quinn throw water balloons at him.

Quinn’s mom is a cop, so lots of police cars have also been driving by with their sirens on.  And there’s a pretty great video of it all on YouTube.

His doctors say he should be able to go outside again in a few weeks.  And they’ll know if his treatments are working in another month or two.

Florida Vacation Home Overrun by Vomiting, Pooping Vultures

A New York couple’s vacation house in Florida has been taken over by dozens of vultures, and the birds are vomiting and defecating everywhere.

They bought the three-bedroom, $702,000 home on a golf course in April. However, four months later, they  claim they’re no longer able to visit because a neighbor is feeding the wildlife. They described the smell from the birds as “like a thousand rotting corpses,”.

One nearby resident says she’s been dealing with it for months because an elderly woman is said to be feeding the vultures. Neighborhood association president said officials are limited in what they can do because the vultures, as migratory birds, are protected by federal law.

NEW YORK PARK POSTS SIGNS AFTER SERIES OF SQUIRREL ATTACKS

Squirrels are getting aggressive in one New York City park. The Battery Park City Authority posted signs in Rockefeller Park warning visitors not to feed the squirrels after a series of biting and scratching incidents. The New York City Parks Department warns that feeding squirrels makes them less afraid of humans– luckily no squirrels in the city have tested positive for rabies.

SNAKE ON A BED

Imagine coming back home after a tiring day and a large python is just casually lying on your bed. This actually happened in Queensland, Australia.

A Facebook post shared by a snake catcher talks about how a large python was resting on a light fitting in the ceiling of a home in Australia. The light could not handle the weight of the snake and gave away resulting in the python dropping on the bed.

Luckily, there was nobody on the bed at that time.

The post also had pictures of the snakes just casually lying on the bed.

SNAKE AT THE DOOR

STUDY: MILLENNIALS SPENT $453 MILLION ON AVOCADOS LAST YEAR

Millennials are stereotyped as loving avocados… but they really do.

A new study by the Hass Avocado Board (HAB) estimates that millennials spent $453 million on avocados in 2018, more than any other generation.

For this study, millennial households were defined as households in which the head of the household was born between 1981 and 1996. The average millennial was found to spend $24.99 on avocados– five percent higher than non-millennial households.

Millennials also purchased avocados more frequently, with about 80 percent buying avocados more than once in 2018, compared to 77 percent of non-millennials who did the same. Still, avocado purchases were up among all generations.

Back Sleepers Fall Asleep the Fastest, but Side Sleepers Sleep the Most

A new poll looked into which position works best, and people who sleep on their back fall asleep the FASTEST.  But side sleepers get the MOST sleep.  Here’s what they found out about each position . . .

  1. “Back sleepers” take an average of 20 minutes and 6 seconds to fall asleep.  But they only average 5 hours and 17 minutes of sleep a night.  They’re more likely than anyone else to describe themselves as “early birds.”  But they also sleepwalk and talk in their sleep the most.  And they have the most nightmares.

  1. “Side sleepers” take 23 minutes and 53 seconds to fall asleep.  So almost four minutes longer.  But they get 5 hours and 47 minutes of sleep a night . . . an extra 30 minutes.  And they’re the most likely to describe themselves as “night owls.”

  1. “Stomach sleepers” take 22 minutes and 31 seconds to fall asleep . . . get 5 hours and 39 minutes a night . . . and they’re less likely to be an early bird OR a night owl.

The survey also found the three most frustrating parts of sleeping with a spouse are when they get up in the middle of the night . . . when they toss and turn . . . and snoring.

And married couples who spoon have fewer issues with their marriage than couples who sleep back-to-back.

CARRIE UNDERWOOD TAPS JOAN JETT FOR NEW ‘SNF’ SHOW OPEN

NBC’s Sunday Night Football returns this fall with an all-new show open featuring Carrie Underwood for the seventh year in a row. JAKE OWEN PROVIDES POSITIVE SOUNDTRACKS TO PEOPLE’S LIVES – (08/20/2019)

Jake Owen is rarely seen without a big smile on his face and a contagious energy that he hope brings smiles to the faces of those around him. When it comes to music, he’s looking for the same thing — a song that makes people happy, as he tells us[“I’ve always just really tried to be a positive person, but because I always try to be so positive I can be negative as hell, too, because I get so mad that things aren’t more positive, right? So with music I’ve always liked songs that seem to empower happiness. I just felt like by providing people with those types of, I guess, soundtracks to their day-to-day life that can be happy is a lot more fun than providing them with sadness, right? There’s enough of that going on in the world.”]

FAST FACTS

Jake only has a few tour dates left this year, wrapping things up on October 27th in Uncasville, CT.

He decided to devote much of this summer to staying home with his infant daughter, Paris, who was born in April.
