On Today’s Show

➢  A Phoenix wife bought her husband tickets to Game 3 of the NBA Finals not realizing that Game 3 was taking place in Wisconsin and not where they live.  Here’s Calvin Stockton explaining what happened and why they decided to fly out to Wisconsin for the game regardless of the mix up.  (His Suns lost that game to the Bucks AND lost again last night so the series is now tied at 2)

A flight attendant shared some of the real questions he’s been asked during a flight.  Things like, “Can you make the plane less loud?” . . . “Can we get there faster, I have a connecting flight?”  And, “Is the Wendy’s at the airport open?”  (He posted more on his TikTok.)

Here’s the latest TikTok food trend: As if air fryer pasta chips weren’t strange enough, TikTokers are now obsessing over “Snickles,” a bizarre combination of Snickers and pickles. That’s right, Snickles are pickles that have been cut in half and stuffed with a Snickers candy bar in the middle. The odd pairing resulted in the hashtag #snickle amassing over 10.8 million views. While the idea has been around for a few years, the trend skyrocketed after TikToker @liamslunchbox posted a video of himself preparing the tangy yet sweet treat, attracting almost 500,000 likes.

Nicolas Cage will no longer play Tiger King’s Joe Exotic in an Amazon TV drama. Plans for the series have been scrapped, according to Cage, who explained that executives think the story is “no longer relevant”. Cage says he read “two excellent scripts” for the show, but “Amazon ultimately felt that it was material that had become past tense because it took so long for it come together.” Another TV drama about Exotic is still going ahead, featuring John Cameron Mitchell as the Tiger King, and Kate McKinnon as his nemesis Carole Baskin. That series is being made by NBC’s streaming service Peacock.

FOUR RANDOM FACTS

  1. There’s a German word that literally means “a face in need of a slap.”  It’s backpfeifengesicht.  (It’s pronouncedBACK-fyfe-in-guh-zist.)

  1. The Big Mac was originally called The Aristocrat.  That name bombed, so it was switched to the Blue Ribbon Burger.  That also bombed, so they went with Big Mac . . . which obviously stuck.

  1. On March 12th, 1951, a cartoonist in the U.K. and a cartoonist in America both launched a comic called Dennis the Menace.  But they were two separate and unrelated characters, and the creators didn’t know about each other.

  1. Bobby Pearce from Australia won the gold medal in men’s single sculls rowing at the 1928 Summer Olympics . . . even though he paused during the competition to let a family of ducks swim past him.

HOW HOT IS TOO HOT FOR DOGS TO BE OUTSIDE? HERE’S WHAT THE EXPERTS SAY

We’re moving into the “dog days of summer,” but when should your dog be brought inside?

Experts say unlike humans, dogs cannot sweat to cool down, and instead rely on panting. So if you see your pooch panting a lot, it’s a sign they’re feeling the heat.

When it comes to temperatures that should make you worried, the College of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University says, “The normal range of temperatures at which dogs and other species can maintain their body temperatures without expending energy to increase heat production or heat loss is called the thermoneutral zone (TNZ), and ranges from 68 degrees Fahrenheit to 86 degrees Fahrenheit for dogs.

Outside of the TNZ exist the upper and lower critical temperature zones.” Dogs with short snouts, small nostrils and narrow windpipes are more likely to struggle in the heat, including French bulldogs, Bulldogs (American and English), Boxers, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Shih Tzus, and Pugs.

Also, dogs with heavier hair or wiry coats could benefit from shorter trims when temperatures rise.

GOOD NEWS

A 94-year-old woman in Alabama named Martha Mae Tucker recently got to cross something off her bucket list . . . by trying on wedding dresses.

She got married in 1952, but Black women weren’t allowed in bridal shops back then.

She told her granddaughter that she’d always wanted to try a real wedding dress on.  So her family made it happen . . . did her makeup . . . and took her to a bridal shop, where she tried on two dresses and looked GREAT in both.

MASSIVE SHARK TOOTH FOUND

A Florida man talking a walk on a beach found a 4-inch tooth from a prehistoric megalodon shark just three weeks after he found a smaller tooth from the same species on the same beach. Jacob Danner said he was walking after Tropical Storm Elsa swept through the area, when he came across the 4-inch tooth. Danner said he found the tooth near where he found a 3-inch megalodon tooth three weeks earlier. Jim Gelsleichter, an associate biology professor at the University of North Florida, said the first tooth Danner discovered could be millions of years old. He said tooth discoveries can tell researchers a lot about the extinct species. “The megalodon fossils that have been observed usually run around 30 feet in length or so,” Gelsleichter

LARGE GOLDFISH CAUGHT IN THE WILD SPARKS WARNINGS FROM LOCAL OFFICIALS

You shouldn’t release your tiny goldfish into the wild, or it may become a big fish. The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (VDWR) wrote on its Facebook pages that a fisherman had set a new record after catching a three-pound, nine-ounce goldfish. In their post, they wrote,

“ Pet owners should never release their aquatic organisms into the wild as unforeseen impacts can occur including disease, competition, and predation.” Around the same time the Virginia record was being certified, an angler in Missouri caught a nine-pound butterfly koi fish.

COLORADO WILDLIFE OFFICIALS SEEKING BEAR WITH PLASTIC BUCKET STUCK ON HEAD

Sometimes humans really need to help out animals in the wild. Late last week Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) said they were trying to locate a bear photographed with a plastic bucket stuck around its head. A CPW spokesman said the bucket doesn’t appear to be causing the bear any pain or affect its mobility, and that the animal seems like it can still eat and drink. He added that officials are concerned about what might happen when the bear puts on weight later in the season. At the time of this writing the bear had not been found.

DOGNAPPING:
An animal expert says sleeping with your dog in bed can improve your mental health. According to dog behaviorist Karen Barrett, you should welcome your dog or cat into your bed as long as you establish dominance.

Obviously, if the dog is sleeping on your head, they think they are superior, and that’s a problem, but if your doggo is happy lying next to you, she says that results in “an oxytocin release that encourages us to cuddle up together. It’s also a basic genetic survival instinct.” She also says that for singles or those whose partners have passed, having a dog that sleeps on the bed is comforting.

A study conducted last year by Canisuis College in Buffalo found that women who sleep with a dog were more likely to get a restful night’s sleep than those who opted to share their bed with a cat OR human.

Richard Sherman Was Arrested After an Incident at His In-Laws’ House

Former Seattle Seahawks cornerback RICHARD SHERMAN was arrested yesterday morning after an incident at his wife’s parents’ house in Redmond, Washington.

Sherman showed up at the house sometime before 2:00 A.M. and tried to get inside.  At least four adults were in the house.  It’s not clear if there were any children.

Sherman didn’t get in, but he did some damage to the door.  When police arrived, he was so unruly that they had to sic their dog on him.  Sherman suffered some lacerations on his leg as a result.  Some cops suffered minor scrapes.

That wasn’t Sherman’s only crime that night.  Shortly before he arrived at his in-laws’ house, Sherman drove his SUV into a closed construction zone, where people were actually WORKING.  One of the workers called 911, and police found the vehicle in a nearby parking lot.  It had significant damage from contact with a concrete barrier, and one of the wheels was almost completely off.

All of this actually started INSIDE the house.  Richard’s wife Ashley called 911 to report that her husband had drank two bottles of alcohol and was trying to fight her uncle and threatening to kill himself. Apparently he left while she was on the call, then came back later.

There’s no word if he was under the influence, but police did do bloodwork, and the results will determine if he’s hit with a DUI.  Whatever the case, he’ll obviously be charged with SOMETHING, like hit-and-run or reckless driving. He’s currently in lockup, waiting to see a judge later today.

Sherman is currently a free agent.  He played the last three seasons for the 49ers, after spending his first seven in Seattle.  He’s 33 years old.

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood were guests at former President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn‘s 75th anniversary party in Georgia over the weekend, but they sent their gift a couple days ahead of the big event. Garth and Trisha were just two of the 300 guests in attendance at the party, which was held at Plains High School in Plains, GA. Other attendees included Bill and Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, and Ted Turner.
