What A Time To Be A Swiftie!

I am so caught up in the excitement right now I don’t even recognize myself. (smile)

Seriously. So much buildup over the past few weeks, with hints as to new music or a new “old” album release. So many easter eggs, or clues, for what’s coming at the Emmy’s a few weekends ago where Taylor showed up in a Law & Order SVU skit.

We’ve seen icons change on her music on streaming services. The letter “O” change to zeros. So mysterious.

Now, we have some more info. A new single coming tomorrow – Patient Zero – and you know that we are going to have that for you on The Fox throughout the day. As soon as that information was announced by Taylor earlier this week, Swifties started looking for clues. Looking at the background from the special CD releases available to backorder. Putting the pieces together saying it looked like a new movie set to hit theatres staring good friend Dakota Johnson.

Then, there was news that there WAS a clue in the skit at the Emmy’s. Fans figured out the mysterious words Taylor dropped meant something which led to the announcement of The Life of a Showgirl – Encore.

On Wednesday, Taylor announced that the expanded version of last year’s The Life of a Showgirl album will be released Friday with four previously unreleased songs including the first single “Patient Zero.” (The other new songs are “Cleveland!,” “Pink Clouding” and “Babylon.”)

And now – THIS – was shared this morning on CBS Good Morning America. The video for the new single “Patient Zero” will premiere at this Sunday’s VMA’s. And look who’s IN THE VIDEO!!!

“So much going on at the moment” could not be more accurate.

I never used to consider myself a Swiftie. I never understood the passion behind being a Taylor Swift fan until last year when she released Life of a Showgirl. The buildup behind it. There was the movie release in theatres where Taylor took us through the album and shared the videos for each song, chatting about the song and the album.

I sat in a movie theatre with a few hundred other Swifties and the energy was just different. There were so many friendly faces. Excitement. Kindness. An overwhelming positive energy that you just couldn’t ignore. I was given friendship bracelets, and was included in other groups of conversations.

I can’t explain what it means to be a “Swiftie”. All I know is that in a world that can feel incredibly negative, being a part of this Swiftie club is the exact opposite.

Yep, it’s just another song, another album by another artist. In the grand scheme of things, a new Taylor Swift song isn’t life changing when so much is going on in the world around us.

But…

It’s such a warm, welcoming, positive space to be in. To be excited about an artist and a new song (or four) and a new album, maybe a movie tie-in – it might just be the break from the other stuff some of us need.
