Apple Picking = Homemade Apple Crisp (Recipe Included)
October 5, 2026 11:39 amWhat did you do this weekend?
I got together with a friend and we went apple picking! It was the perfect day for it. A whole lot of sunshine, and very few bees! That’s a big win for me. (smile)
We went to Dalrae Orchards in Port Lambton. I just love the drive along the river. Beautiful – especially this time of year with the colour changing.
So many different types of apples for picking – Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, Mutsu/Crispin, Jonagold, Empire, AMBROSIA, CORTLAND, Gala and McIntosh (my fave for baking).
What is your favourite way to enjoy fresh picked apples? As a snack they are delicious. There is nothing better than an apple you picked yourself, right from the tree. Apple slices with some peanut butter, sometimes a few chocolate chips sprinkled on top, or caramel dip and it makes a great snack anytime of day.
Add some apple to a muffin. Delicious.
But apple pie or apple crisp has to be my absolute favourite!
I made some apple crisp last night using a recipe from my mom’s old recipe book. Yeah, I know it says cherry – but all you do is substitute the cherries for apple slices and it’s the best apple crisp you’ve ever had. Add a little ice cream or whipped cream and it’s chef’s kiss.
And what is that old expression? “An apple a day keeps the doctor away?” I’d prefer if it kept bills away, but I’ll take what I can get (smile)
