Concert Review #8: Jeff Lynne’s ELO
November 13, 2024 10:58 amHey folks, it’ s Steve, the Classic Rock 98.1 Intern with another review of another stellar show. This was the second international rock n roll road trip of my internship and this time we headed down to the Motor City to check out Jeff Lynne’s ELO.
Shortly after arriving in Detroit, we ran into 65,000 of our closest friends exiting Comerica Park and celebrating a Tigers win. Go Tigers! Little Caesars Arena was just a few blocks away and we couldn’t wait to see what the Electric Light Orchestra had in store for us, on their final “Over and Out” Tour!
The pre-show music was a barrage of Lynne produced music by the Travelling Willburry’s, Tom Petty and George Harrison perfectly setting the tone for the night. The lights went down and we had lift off. They kicked things off with the appropriate One More Time, followed by ‘Evil Woman,’ and the crowd was immediately transported back to the golden age of classic rock.
The energy in the room was electric as Lynne seamlessly guided the band through timeless hits like “Strange Magic” and ‘Telephone Line.’ But it was the ‘Mr. Blue Sky’ encore that truly brought the house down!
Lynne’s voice still carries the same warmth and richness it did decades ago, making this farewell all the more poignant. With this being their last tour, it felt like the end of an era—a celebration of the legacy of ELO and a fitting send-off to one of rock’s most influential bands.
Thanks again Classic Rock 98.1 for another amazing night!!
