Concert Review #1: Steve Miller Band
July 4, 2024 3:17 pmHey folks, it’s Steve, the 98.1 Classic Rock intern. My rock and roll journey began this week with the Steve Miller Band’s full-throttle performance at Budweiser Gardens in London, Ontario
on June 27. The show opened with Canadian rock legends, April Wine, whose energetic, hit-filled set pumped up the crowd. The Steve Miller Band came out swinging as they launched their
set with a blistering rendition of “Swingtown”
Steve Miller, displaying his trademark charisma and guitar prowess, led the band through a setlist packed with hits. Songs like “Rock ‘n Me,” “Fly Like an Eagle” and “Take the Money and Run” had the audience singing along, creating a shared sense of nostalgia and joy. The band’s tight performance and harmonious vocals highlighted their enduring talent and experience.
There were a few surprises throughout the night including Steve singing “Guess who’s back? Guess who’s Back?”, a nod to Eminem, during Abracadabra; as well as Steve telling the crowd
that his God-father growing up was musical pioneer Les Paul! One of the evening’s standout moments happened during the encore, and was the performance of “The Joker” which had the entire arena dancing and singing. The night concluded with an electrifying version of “Jet Airliner,” leaving the audience exhilarated and satisfied.
Overall, the Steve Miller Band’s concert was a masterful display of classic rock excellence, proving that they still possess the magic that has kept them beloved by fans for decades.
And that’s another day in the life of the 98.1 Classic Rock Intern!
