Here’s what you should know today…


 

  • Children’s Museum upgrade: The London Children’s Museum is gearing up for its move to there new location and is asking for Londoners help. As of fall 2024, the new location for the museum will be at 100 Kellogg’s Lane. Here, they will have just over 30,000 square feet of space which is a massive jump from its previous 10,000 square foot location. 100 Kellogg’s Lane is also home to The Factory, as well as a number of bars, and a hotel which is currently being constructed. Once completed in 2024, there will be eight different themed exhibits for children to enjoy. The museum is in its final stage of fundraising and is asking for donations. According to officials, the museum will generate $6 million in yearly revenue for the London economy. Click here if you would like to help the museum with the move.

 

  • Time to test your smoke alarm: Today is Ontario’s first ever Test Your Smoke Alarm Day. The London Fire Department is reminding residents to remember to check their smoke detectors at least once a month. “It’s a small but life-saving action. I hope you will join me in participating in Test Your Smoke Alarm Day on September 28th. Taking a minute from your day can make a big difference for the safety of your home and your loved ones,” Mayor Josh Morgan said in a statement. Saved by The Beep campaign was started after 133 people have died in deadly house fires in Ontario this past year, This is the highest number in over 20 years. Homeowners have been required to install smoke detectors on every floor of the home since 2006.

 

 

  • Oktober Fall Fest 2023: This weekend will be the final weekend of Oktoberfest 2023. If you haven’t had the chance to check out the festival, this will be your last chance. There will be live music, food, drinks and all the amenities The Factory London has to offer. It is a free event and will end on Sunday October 1st at 7pm.   • On This Day: In 1968 “Hey Jude” by The Beatles reached number one on the US Billboards Chart. This was the biggest hit they released, and gave them the honour of having the best selling record of the 1960s. The record would stay number one for nine straight weeks and sold eight million copies. Paul McCartney wrote the song for John Lennon’s son Julian who later paid 25,000 pounds for the song notes in 1996.
