What to know for today;

  • Green Bin Program to be distributed: Londoners should be expecting a green bin to be delivered to their doorstep over the next few weeks. Over the next two months, the city will be sending over 120,000 green bins to homeowners through the new Green Bin Program. Residents will be receiving a small container for their kitchen, and larger compost bin to be brought out to the cub on collection day. The Green Bin Program is set to start January 15, 2024 and will have all bins sent out by mid-December starting with west London Zone A. As garbage collection moves to a two week collection method, compost collection will still be weekly. As a part of London’s Climate Emergency Action Plan and Strategic Plan, the compost will be used to feed local farms and soil, and extend the life of landfills by keeping organic materials out. In 2011, London tested a pilot program for green bins, but finally received city council approval earlier this year.

  • London MP office vandalized: As thousands of Londoners gathered in downtown to show their support for Palestine, a few protesters vandalized London North Centre MP Peter Fragiskatos office. Located just off of Richmond Row, vandalizers sprayed ketchup all over the office doors. Fragiskatos explains how serious the issue is. “Our office has been vandalized before. What’s next? Are we going to have a brick? Are we going to have my home targeted? The homes of staff members?,” he continued. “It does contribute to an atmosphere of intimidation.” He also said nobody was at the office during the incident and they managed to clean up the mess on Sunday. Days after the London MP tweeted his support for Israel during the conflict in the middle east, protesters showed up to his office to show their support for Palestine. Over 5,000 protesters demonstrated in Victoria Park Sunday called for a ceasefire.

  • Road closure: Gore Rd between Clarke Rd and Veterans Memorial Parkway will be closed until Thursday due to services on a private site.
