Headlines to know for today…


 

  • Major intersection reopens: As of this morning, construction work at the intersection of Southdale and Colonel Talbot will reopen after five days. One lane of the roundabout project will still be closed as final work is due to complete in mid November. Pedestrians will be able to have access with two crossings on both the west and south sides completed. Construction is expected to fully be completed later this year with final touch ups in spring 2024.

 

  • 53 storey building receives push back: The city of London received a proposal for a new 53 storey apartment building to be built at 50 King St. The project would consist of two of London’s tallest buildings with  53 and 42 storey towers connected. After receiving criticism, the city council endorsed the project at a meeting Tuesday. City council will make its final decision on October 17.

 

  • Hazing leads to high school football team suspension: The Laurier Rams senior football team has been suspended over a hazing incident until October 10. Players have until October 23 to partake in a mandatory hazing workshop, a Respect in Sport online course.

 

  • Maskin rule into effect: Mandatory masking comes into effect in the London Health Science Center, St. Joseph’s Health Care and St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital’s. Visitors will be required to wear a mask in all clinical, and patient areas. In London hospitals, this rule is only recommended. For those with fever or respiratory symptoms , it is mandated. Physicians and staff will be required to wear it with inpatients and outpatients. While in common areas such as the cafeteria, break rooms, hallways, maskings is recommended but not mandatory.
