Support Program for Pregnant People and Young Parents

Run by Southwestern Public Health, young pregnant people (24 and younger) and new parents can sign up for free home visits from public health nurses to help figure out what to do with the baby.

This service has been offered in London since 2017, but is now being offered in Woodstock and St.Thomas (+ in other Oxford and Elgin counties). To be eligible for this program, a person must be 28 weeks pregnant or less.

Parents will “graduate’ from the program once the child turns two years old, by this point, the parents will have learned enough about parenting to finally parent without any assistance. During this 2+ year period, the parents will be connected to a nurse who will help guide them through the difficulties of pregnancy and parenting.

People who wish to have this service can contact Southwestern Public Health or be referred through their care provider.

To learn more, visit Southwestern Public Health’s website: https://www.swpublichealth.ca/en/classes-clinics-and-services/pregnancy-and-baby-supports.aspx

London Area Farmers are Harvesting Huge Apples

The apples this year are huge! Thanks to all of the heat and moisture this year, the apples grew to be large and crisp.

Estimated to be about 20-30% larger than usual, Crunican Orchards assumes that this is because of the heavy rain and humidity. Usually, too much rain is a concern for these orchards, but because Crunican Orchards plants their apple trees in and around sand, the water evaporates faster.

Apple Land Station is located at 329 Richmond St, Thorndale. They offer a train ride to go apple picking, pumpkin picking, and a chance to meet the farm animals! This is going until October 31st, before they prepare to switch for their winter activities.

Not feeling like picking your own fruits or making your own sweet treats? Thats ok! Because they also have a bakery and a store!

This is an exciting (and delicious) fall activity for the whole family!
