- Athletes banned from advertising online gambling: The Alcohol Gaming Commission of Ontario has put a ban on athletes participating on ads for online gambling. The ban was put in place to stop celebrities who “would likely appeal to minors” from underage gambling. The AGCO said in a press release “We’re therefore increasing measures to protect Ontario’s youth by disallowing the use of these influential figures to promote online betting in Ontario.” The ban will come to effect February, 28th 2024.
- PWHL: Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa will be the new home for professional women’s hockey. The PWHL will consist of six teams in Canada and the United States. Supported by Los Angeles Dodgers President Stan Kasten, the league will have its first draft September, 18th 2023. There will be 24 regular season games with a full schedule to be released soon.
- LTC Fare Increase: In a recent report, the London Transit Commission announced that there will be an 18% to 20% increase in fare pricing. The LTC stated the rising price of diesel and maintenance services are the reason. The 2024-2027 multi year budget proposal is set to get underway later this year.
- Ontario Teachers Reject Lecce’s Offer: The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario filed on conciliation Tuesday after rejecting education minister Stephen Lecce’s contract offer. With classes beginning next Tuesday, the union will strike mid September and mid October if a deal isn’t reached.
- Road Closure: Colborne between Princess and Dufferin Ave will be close until 6 p.m. for utility work.
