Here’s what you need to know for this long weekend

  • Mosquitos are more dangerous this year: The first case of West Nile virus has been confirmed in London. Members of the London Middlesex Health Unit have been setting traps throughout London and five mosquitos have been confirmed with the virus. Londoners are reminded to protect themselves from mosquitoes as the virus is transmitted through bites.
  • Project LEARN back up and running: London Police have relaunched Project LEARN this year. LEARN (Liquor Enforcement and Reduction of Noise) is in response to the overwhelming amount of students coming to the city. The community has voiced complaints about fires, parties, noise etc. around Fanshawe College and Western University when the students arrive. The initiative is due to start September 1st.
  • Slow down this Labour Day: Police are also reminding people to be more careful this weekend.  As we head into the long weekend, we need to do our part to prevent tragedy on the roads. There will be ride programs throughout the city. Remember to buckle up, and if you’re taking any drugs or alcohol, don’t get behind the wheel.
  • Music City of the World is alive: Since the announcement of London being one of the music cities of the world, there have been multiple festivals happening this summer. Manifest is going to be happening this Sunday at Covent Garden Market. With over 20 local artists performing, this will be a great way to end the summer. Tickets are free and the event will start at 3 p.m.
