October 6, 2023 4:41 amHere’s what to know for today;
- New COVID vaccine available: The Middlesex-London Health Unit will be offering new updated Moderna Omicron XXB Covid-19 vaccines starting today. Vaccines will be available at the Western Fair at 11 am for the most vulnerable residents. This includes anyone over the age of 65, pregnant individuals, children six months to four years of age, Healthcare workers first responders and long term care staff and residents. A full list of eligibility can be found here at the MLHU website. “Based on what we have seen in the Southern hemisphere and what we are beginning to see locally, we are expecting this respiratory season to be more severe than one’s prior to COVID-19,” says Dr. Joanne Kearon, Associate Medical Officer of Health at the Middlesex-London Health Unit. Londoners will need to book an appointment to receive the vaccine as walk-ins are not permitted. Appointments can be booked online at www.covidvaccinelm.caor over the phone at 226-289-3560 between the hours of 9 am to 5 pm. Health Canada gave the booster shot approval earlier this month. The first local case of Influenza A was confirmed Tuesday.
- Real estate market stabilizing: September’s real estate numbers indicate the market might be more balanced than anticipated. According to the London St. Thomas Realtors Association, September saw an increase of new home listings. 1,320 homes have been added to the market which is over 100 more than August. This is a 4.4 percent increase from the 3.5 percent in August. Total homes sold did see a 6.5 percent decrease from August numbers, and the average price of a home dipped $30,000 to $633, 848. There have been 2,430 homes sold in the London area since June. TheBank of Canada will make its next announcement on October 5th.
- Fleetwood Mac will not be touring anymore: In an interview with Vulture, singer-songwriter Stevie Nicks sees “no reason” for Fleetwood Mac to tour anymore after the death of her bandmate Christine McVie. After suffering from a stroke, McVie died last November in hospital. She was also suffering from cancer. “She was like my soul mate, my musical soul mate, and my best friend that I spent more time with than any of my other best friends outside of Fleetwood Mac. Christine was my best friend.” Nicks told Vulture. “When Christine died, I felt like you can’t replace her.” McVie did leave the band once before in 1998 before returning in 2014. During this time Nicks said they did tour without her. So far, Nicks is the only one to speak on this situation, but drummer Mick Fleetwood said he doesn’t know where the band will go from here.
- Fans criticize the Blue Jays front office as the season comes to an end: After a disappointing loss to the Minnesota Twins, the Toronto Blue Jays have ended their season in the Wild Card series. Blue Jays fans put the blame on General Manager John Schneider for pulling pitcher Jose Berrios in the fourth inning. Berrios only threw 47 pitches at this point with the game tied at zero. Yusei Kukichi was put into the game, and after only four batters, the Jays were down 2-0. Fans were outraged as this led to their elimination. Fans are calling for the firing of head coach Bo Bichette, and Schneder’s worthiness as general manager comes into question. “I know we are in an elimination game… I understand the move. I have to deal with that,” Berrios said after the game. The Twins will not face the Houston Astros in the playoffs Sunday.
