Here’s what to know;


 

  • Mask mandates return to London hospitals: London Health Sciences Center, St. Joseph’s Health Care London, and St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital will be reinstating mandatory masking for all patients and visitors. The mandate will come into effect Wednesday. Masks will be available at hospital entrances, and will be required in all inpatient and outpatient settings. They will not be mandatory in common areas such as the cafeteria, auditorium, break rooms or hallways. Throughout the province, hospitals did ease up on mandatory masking back in April as COVID and flu numbers decreased.

 

  • Round the clock construction at Masonville intersection: The construction at the Fanshawe Park Rd. and the Richmond St. intersection will run on a 24 hour construction schedule. Traffic will be reduced to one lane going in both directions. The need for the round the clock construction is to install and test a water main underneath the road. Regular daytime construction will return on Friday.

 

  • A bigger role for pharmacists in healthcare: A list of ailments that pharmacists are able to treat and prescribe for has expanded. Since January 1, 2023, pharmacists have been able to treat a number of minor  illnesses like hay fever, pink eye, menstrual cramps, hemorrhoids and more. Now as of October 1, 2023, people can now receive treatment and prescriptions for acne, canker sores, diaper rash, yeast infection, parasitic worms, and nausea. Changes have been made in partnership with Ontario College of Pharmacys.
  • Aerosmith postponed farewell tour: Aerosmith will be postponing the rest of their PEACE OUT farewell tour. Singer Tyler Steven’s fractured his larynx earlier this month, and has still been in recovery. “He is receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure his recovery is swift, but given the nature of a fracture, he is being told patience is essential. As a result, all the currently scheduled PEACE OUT shows must be postponed to sometime in 2024, with new dates to be announced as soon as we know more.” The band said in a Facebook statement. With stops in Toronto, the 40 date American tour Will be a farewell tour to celebrate the bands 50 years together.
