Celebrity Status – New Movies, DWTS Spinoff, And Heated Rivalry Honours
April 24, 2026 9:50 amFor Friday, April 24th:
Despite its ineligibility for the Emmy Awards, ‘Heated Rivalry’ will be honoured by ‘The Television Academy Honors.’ It’s being recognized for addressing LGBTQ+ representation, inclusivity in sports and toxic masculinity. AND at the 24th ACTRA Awards in Toronto on May 11th, Heated Rivalry is one of this year’s Series Ensemble Award nominees, up against the likes of Children Ruin Everything, Law & Order Toronto, and Murdoch Mysteries.
In theaters, Jafaar Jackson portrays his famous uncle, Michael Jackson, in the biopic ‘Michael’ about his rise to fame in the Jackson 5 and breaking away from his controlling father, Joe, played by Colman domingo, for a solo career. Kat Graham and Miles Teller also star.
Also in theaters, Anne Hathaway and Michael Coel star in the supernatural psychological thriller ‘Mother Mary’... and Jason Segel and Samara Weaving star in the action comedy thriller ‘Over Your Dead Body’.
In ‘Apex’ on Netflix, Charlize Theron stars as a grieving woman seeking solace in the wilderness only to become ensnared in a deadly game of cat and mouse with a serial killer.
Dancing With the Stars winner Robert Irwin is returning to the show — kind of. This time it’s not to dance but in a new role. He will be the host of the spinoff “The Next Pro” to find a new professional dancer for DWTS.
And there’s no new SNL live from NY this week, but Nicola Coughlan — aka Penelope on Bridgerton — will host SNL UK with Foo Fighters as the musical guest.
