Shania Twain Credits Menopause With Improved Body Image
June 18, 2026 10:30 amShania Twain disclosed she previously engaged in “very unhealthy things” while trying to control her weight, but now embraces menopause’s positive impact on self-acceptance.
Speaking with The Times, the 60-year-old described a difficult 2019 period during her Las Vegas residency when she avoided mirrors entirely.
“I stopped looking at myself in the mirror. I hated my body. I’m, like, ‘Oh, I cannot stand this changing body.'”
The singer recalled struggling with bloating and weight control, admitting she was “working my body more than I was feeding it” which left her “malnourished” and worsened an onstage injury.
Her perspective transformed completely: “Now I’m like, bring on the mirrors, I’m going to look at myself all day long!”
Twain attributes this shift to menopause, saying it taught her “some things you cannot control.”
