Michael Ray is mourning the loss of his grandmother, who passed away this week. Michael shared the news on Instagram, writing a long tribute to his “granny” and playing Merle Haggard’s “If I Could Only Fly” in her memory.

His grandmother was the wife of his late grandfather Amos, after whom Michael’s latest album is titled.

The singer wrote, in part,

“I don’t know what to say except thank you for all you did for all of us. Im so glad God gave me you as a grandmother you were the definition of strong independent, hard working god fearing, family woman. I’m so glad Carly got to meet you she reminds me a lot of you in someways . . .”

Of course, Michael is referring to his fiancee, Carly Pearce.
