Brad Paisley & Wife Building Free Grocery Store

Brad Paisley broke ground on a “free” grocery store in Nashville.

If you’re wondering what a free grocery store is, it’s a grocery store where everything is free. It’s to help needy families who are dealing with food insecurity, which is a fancy way of saying they don’t know where their next meal is coming from. And it’s a big problem. One in five kids lives that way.

It’ll be called ‘The Store,’ it’ll be located on the campus of Belmont University, where Brad went to college, and it’ll open later this year.

Instead of a soup kitchen or a food bank, it’ll look and operate like a real grocery store. People go ‘shopping’ through the aisles, then students and volunteers scan their items. But no money changes hands. Even the mechanical horse outside is free.

That might sound a little odd, but the idea is to give people dignity. According to Brad, it “takes away the sting of embarrassment” for parents who feel ashamed they can’t feed their children when they’re just trying to get back on their feet.

Quote, “The kids should not know what their parent is going through. That’s not stress a child needs.”
