Brooks & Dunn Reminisce About Past ACM Awards
April 4, 2019 10:16 amBrooks & Dunn will return to the stage of the ACM Awards for the first time in a few years. They last performed during the live broadcast at the 50th annual celebration, which hailed from Dallas, TX for the first and only time. This weekend, however, they’ll be in Las Vegas and teaming up with Luke Combs to perform one of their mega-hits, “Brand New Man.”
Kix Brooks said the ACM Awards have been integral to Brooks & Dunn’s success over the years.
“That was our first awards ever. Our first awards were two awards at the ACMs maybe in ’91, and it was a huge boost to our career. I think ‘Neon Moon’ went Number One the same week so that would’ve been our third single, and our sales doubled that week and things just really took off so we got a real sweet spot in our heart for the ACMs. It’ll be fun to get back on there.”
Until last year, the duo was the most-awarded act in ACM history with 29 until Miranda Lambert took home her 30th trophy in 2018. Kix said that their good friend and the show’s host, Reba McEntire, took pleasure in rubbing that in.
“Reba just had such a big time telling the world that Miranda last year had surpassed us in awards at the ACMs. She was so giddy about that. What is wrong with her? ‘Oh, and I got some news, yeah. Miranda just passed Brooks & Dunn. I bet they hate that ha ha ha ha.’ It’s not funny.”
This year’s ACM Awards airs on Sunday, April 7th on CBS beginning at 8 pm.
