Morgan Wallen broke his silence with a video to fans posted on social media on Wednesday, February 10th which lasted just over five minutes.

He started by saying he was “long overdue” to make a statement, and that the video that TMZ showed of him using the N-word was “me on hour 72 of a 72-hour bender.”

Morgan apologized several times and admitted he had let many people down, not the least of whom are his parents and his infant son.

At this point, Morgan said he has been sober for 9 days, and he realizes that alcohol is an issue in his life. He said,

“The man in that video is not the man I’m trying to be.”

During this past week, he has accepted invitations to meet with leaders at various black organizations to gain a greater understanding.

Morgan said, “I don’t want to add to any division.”

He ended by asking a favour of his supporters saying,

“I appreciate those who still see something in me and have defended me, but for today, please don’t. I was wrong. It’s on me to take ownership for this and I fully accept any penalties I’m facing.”

Those penalties include a suspended recording contract, losing the majority of country radio airplay, being dropped by his booking agent, and the Academy of Country Music deeming him ineligible to receive any awards and/or participate at the upcoming ACM Awards.
