Eric Church Plays Gospel-Influenced Set At Stagecoach
April 29, 2024 11:00 amEric Church surprised the Friday night crowd at Stagecoach with a 75-minute, non-stop, mostly Gospel-influenced set, that sent several concertgoers to the exits.
USA Today described it as “a sight that could be best described as Moses parting the Red Sea.”
He opened with “Hallelujah” and included covers “Take Me To The River,” and “Danny’s Song” then sprinkled in some hip-hop with Snoop Dogg‘s “Gin & Juice” and 2Pac’s “California Love.”
He performed with an acoustic guitar and a 16-person choir that included longtime collaborator Joanna Cotton.
Near the end, he did his hit “Springsteen,” which USA Today described as “one of the true highlights of the baffling set.”
Church concluded by his band rising from beneath the stage to join on the final few songs.
This was his seventh time playing the festival and fifth time to headline.
