Vince Gill On Joining The Eagles
August 25, 2024 7:00 amVince Gill did four nights at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville this month and says playing his own stuff was a nice change of pace.
He’s been touring with the Eagles for the past seven years. Don Henley hand-picked him to replace founding member Glenn Frey, who passed away in 2016.
Vince said,
“I think that I sing those Eagles songs fine and all of that, but they weren’t written for me. These songs of mine were kind of tailor-made for the way I sing.”
He also talked about why the Eagles picked a “country guy” to replace Glenn, and said Don’s reasoning was, “Because [Vince] knows how to be in a BAND.”
“That was just such a beautiful validation. I don’t have to have the attention. I don’t have to have the spotlight. I don’t have to do all the talking. It doesn’t really matter what role you have, just as long as what you’re trying to do is make [the show] better.”
The Eagles are gearing up for a big residency at The Sphere in Last Vegas next month. It runs 10 weekends, from September 20th through January 25th.
