Keith Whitley Documentary Coming

The late, great Keith Whitley is getting his own documentary, and there’s a big name attached to produce it.

Keith had a bunch of hits in a short span of time, including “Don’t Close Your Eyes” in 1988. He also did “When You Say Nothing at All” seven years before it was a hit for Allison Krauss.

Sadly, Keith died in ’89 of alcohol poisoning at age 34.

He only put out three albums, but they were filled with hits.

The documentary was announced on Instagram yesterday by Blake Shelton, who’s signed on to co-produce.

“Keith Whitley released only three albums during his life, but his music has influenced generations of country music artists. I’m proud and honored we get to bring his incredible story to film.”

They’re set to start shooting it next month.

Blake said it’ll also include archival footage from the Country Music Hall of Fame, and from Keith’s wife Lorrie Morgan.
