The Grand Ole Opry has spent the whole year celebrating its 100th anniversary.

They asked their fans to join in the fun by asking them to vote for the greatest country song ever played on the Opry stage, and then they chose Vince Gill to perform it.

So, when Vince walked out, he joked,

“No pressure, singing the most popular song of all time.  Thanks a million.  They asked me to do it, ’cause I’ll do anything. I ain’t scared of nothing.”

The top song was George Jones’ song “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” which was written by Bobby Braddock and Curly Putman.

It came out in 1980 and won a Grammy, and then won Song of the Year at the ACMs and the CMAs.

Vince told the crowd it was only the second time he had ever sung it live.
