Willie Nelson has recorded “Heart of America” for the soundtrack to Amazon Prime’s new Civil War drama, The Gray House.

The show premiered on Thursday, February 26, with the album released the same day via MCA Nashville/Universal Music.

Songwriters Jim “Moose” Brown and Erin Enderlin and actor Jeff Fahey wrote the patriotic ballad specifically for the series finale.

Brown said, “When we wrote this we thought Willie would be the perfect spokesperson for it.” Executive producer Leslie Greif called Nelson “the holy grail” for the project, stating “Who has the breadth and gravitas to tell a story of unity of a country held together by its differences than Willie Nelson?”

The eight-episode series was also executive-produced by Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman.

The soundtrack features additional contributions from country stars Lainey Wilson, Shania Twain, The War and Treaty, and Drake Milligan, along with songs by Adrienne Warren, Creed’s Scott Stapp, Larkin Poe, and rapper Killer Mike.
