Wellness Wednesday – Because It’s “Kinda Chic” To Take Care Of Yourself

I love this trend that is making it’s way around social media right now that is pretty much highlighting being authentic, being excited about things you love.

I think it’s kinda chic to take care of yourself in all the best ways. We should be investing ourselves daily and paying attention to our physical and mental wellness.

That’s what Wellness Wednesday is all about. Offering some encouragement to help you find the ways to take care of yourself. That can look different to everyone, and it changes from day to day, year to year.

This afternoon we talk to Jenny and Tina from Life’s Seasons Care & Support about being the strong one. There are a lot of us carrying around a lot of “heavy stuff” and sometimes we need to let someone else help carry the load. Because even though we live in a world that praises people for “being strong” and carrying it all –

“Being the strong one doesn’t mean carrying everything alone. We all have emotional limits. When we ignore those limits, for long enough, our minds and bodies eventually start waving red flags. That could look like anxiety, burnout, irritability, trouble sleeping, feeling emotionally numb, physical pain, or even feeling like you’re constantly on edge or overwhelmed and not really knowing why. It’s not ever about not struggling, it’s about giving yourself permission to struggle before your body makes that decision for you.”

“The truth is, pretending you’re okay, when you’re not, it comes at a cost.”

“The goal isn’t to stop being strong. It’s to stop believing that strength requires pretending.”

At 4:40 we talk to Paul Skuza – General Manager of the YMCA Jerry McCaw Family Centre Sarnia about some of the myths surrounding fitness. Because we all want to be our healthiest, strongest selves – but there’s so much out there, it can be overwhelming and hard to know what really works.

Be wary of promises of quick fixes (even though we keep wanting it to be true lol)

How much time is enough to see changes?
