Nashville Airport Renaming For Dolly Parton Moves Forward
September 14, 2026 5:55 amThe Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority unanimously voted Friday to begin renaming Nashville International Airport after Dolly Parton, though a final name has not been confirmed.
Officials said they will “work with appropriate parties to decide how Parton’s name and legacy will be incorporated.”
A policy exception is required, as current rules prohibit renaming properties after individuals who have been dead fewer than two years.
A fan petition surpassing 175,000 signatures helped drive momentum.
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee stated, “Dolly Parton’s extraordinary life is forever woven into the fabric of our state.”
Mayor Freddie O’Connell added the renaming would serve as “a love letter to Dolly.”
The change would make it the first U.S. international commercial airport named after a woman.
Parton died August 25th at age 80.
